'Initially, they were [co-operating], but at this point we're trying to work with them to get some more information,' detective superintendent Grant Healey told reporters.
'We haven't been able to interview them properly yet, so we're just waiting a little bit longer so we've got time to process and come back to us.'
Police sources told The Daily Telegraph on Tuesday Ms Duncan was not the intended target of the shooting and, instead, the gunmen were sending a 'warning' to someone in the house.
Superintendent Healey said Ms Duncan's 'very upset' family were assisting police.
'It's tragic. Your mother and the grandmother of your children has been shot by cowards that stood out the front of her house,' he said.
He added 'three people got out of a dark-coloured sedan before firing several shots at the house and then leaving'.
Neighbours reported hearing multiple gunshots followed by screams for help from Ms Duncan's son.
'As we came outside, we just heard the son yelling "My mum's been shot",' Shaun Burridge told 9News.
'He was pretty upset, devastated, and then her daughter turned up a bit later on. She was a mess.'
NSW Police has set up Strike Force Apslawn to investigate the shooting.
